May 24, 2023

HONOLULU, HI (May 10, 2023) – Musical memories will come alive on Wednesday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m. as The Makaha Sons and Hawaii Theatre host Music & Memories, a concert to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association – Hawaii. Honoring and celebrating music’s role in our lives and the memories that come alive through music, the concert will feature a lineup of local, talented musicians including Nā 'Ukulele 'Ekolu, Kawika Kahiapo, Bobby Moderow, Jr., Robi Kahakalau, and The Makaha Sons. "I am honored to be helping Alzheimer's Association – Hawaii raise funds to battle this disease,” said Kimo Artis of The Makaha Sons. “Many friends and family have been affected by Alzheimer's, including my grandmother, Gladys Artis. I do this in her honor."

Due to the gracious generosity of the Hawaii Theatre, 100% of the concert proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association in the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. “The Hawaii Theatre’s Partners in the Arts program has provided underwriting to offset the cost of using the theatre for this important event,” said Greg Dunn, President and CEO of Hawaii Theatre Center. “We’re grateful to our donors who have contributed to support the program. We are excited by the generous support of our musicians who are stepping up to raise awareness and funds to support the important work of the Alzheimer’s Association – Hawaii.”

LJ Duenas, Executive Director, Alzheimer’s Association – Hawaii, shares, “Music memories often remain in the brain even as language and other memories disappear for people living with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia. Music is undoubtedly powerful. We are so grateful for this partnership and looking forward to an amazing turnout.”

Alzheimer’s disease is the leading cause of dementia and is a devastating illness that impacts nearly 100,000 Hawaii residents, including the 65,000 unpaid caregivers. The concert is aimed at raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and other dementia and to generate funds to support local care programs, services, and research.

The concert promises to be a memorable and moving experience for everyone. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $35, via the Hawaii Theatre’s website at hawaiitheatre.com or by phone at 808.528.0506.
