The Institute for Human Services (IHS) has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a ministry distributing peanut butter sandwiches to those sleeping on the streets of Chinatown in the late 1970s. The team Connie Mitchell put together after joining IHS in 2006 can be justly proud of how the nonprofit tackles the many challenges faced by the unhoused.

In the latest issue, find how cannabis might become an important part of your healthcare regimen. Marijuana may help you sleep better or free you from constant pain. It could reduce anxiety and worry. It’s more available than ever, and there are endless resources to help you decide how you’d like to try it. An increasing number of seniors are trying it. Just remember to consult with your doctor first.

Caregiver Compatibility is Key

Like most things, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for your individual caregiver needs and circumstances. Everyone is different and likes to be treated differently. So finding a caregiver who is compatible with you or your loved one and their particular personality traits can help them transition to receiving care. In her article, Altres Care Manager Kristina Wong recommends finding a caregiver who asks the right questions about you or your loved one in order to determine a good personality match.

Medicare 2023: Hawai‘i’s Got It Good!

Insurance Broker Robin Reisinger, a Medicare expert, compared Advantage plans across the country. She has found that compared with the mainland, Hawai‘i has really great plans, with even better offerings in 2023. For the first time, some Medicare Advantage plans include massage coverage and dental plans cover implants, and a few Medicare Advantage plans removed the Part D drug deductible entirely, which can save members hundreds of dollars. Other new benefits include bathroom safety equipment with no copay and medical alert device at no charge
